One of the worst feelings in CrossFit comes when an Open workout is announced and you can’t do a movement that you have been avoiding. When this happens, people spend the next 24-48 hours madly working for a breakthrough, only to find their shoulders smoked and palms shredded before they actually perform the workout.
But what if you spent the next month practicing the things you struggle with? “Chasing your goats,” it’s called. What if you booked a coach to help you make some real progress on toes-to-bars or muscle-ups? What if you didn’t count the wall-ball shot that didn’t hit the line? What if you only got one rep, but it was a PR? What if you had 8 minutes left after that one rep, and could do another, and then another…
If you did all that, I’d suggest you could feel very confident indeed on Feb. 23. You’ll be as prepared as you can be for whatever Dave Castro announces, and you can rest easy knowing you’ve trained hard.
